If you run any Youtube Channels, you have been notified that you need to identify whether your videos are geared towards children.
They are requiring this to stay in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, and are requiring it regardless of where the Youtube creator lives.
Today is the day they start penalizing Channels that haven’t yet identified whether any of their videos are made for kids. The penalties will include limitations on monetization, as well as limiting exposure of the videos themselves.
If you haven’t done so, you need to go in and set your Audience settings to inform Youtube of the content. You can set this as: (1) all content is made for kids; (2) no content is made for kids; or (3) select videos individually if you have some of each.
Here are the exact steps you need to take:
- Sign in to studio.youtube.com.
- On the left menu, click Settings.
- Click Channel.
- Click the Advanced Settings tab.
- Under Audience, select:
- “Yes, set this channel as made for kids. I always upload content that’s made for kids.”
- “No, set this channel as not made for kids. I never upload content that’s made for kids.”
- “I want to review this setting for every video.”
- Click Save.
Remember if you have more than one channel, you need to do this for each one.
You can read more information about this on Youtube Help.
